A tourist spot based dive centers, like those in Bali, Phuket and Costa Rica has the following characteristics.

•	Located near popular tourist spots where there are ample scuba diving activities and dive sites

This makes the dive operations slightly easier logistically, compared to city based dive centers. There is less travelling from the point the dive center receives the customers at the dive center. This will lead to the below two characteristics.

•	There are many other dive operators around, hence huge competition

The development of the area into a scuba diving tourist spot means that there are likely to be ample competition. This means that marketing is important and margins may be thin. Dive centers not only need to be good in quality but need to be ahead of competition to do well.

•	Significant portion of the customers are walk-in customers with a handful of them making phone enquiries

Walk in customers means the dive center do not know the customers beforehand. The customers did not patronize because the owners or staff directly persuaded them to. The customers found the dive center by various means.

•	Customers are mostly tourists and not local residents

There are less repeat customers as tourist are more likely to visit other diving spots for their next travel. This means that there is a constant need to attract new and unknowing customers. The dive center that can attract the most new incoming divers wins, provided they can serve them with quality.

Tourists find out about dive centers in popular tourists spots through 3 ways
•	Recommendations from customers who experienced diving with the dive center
•	Their local dive centers or dive travel companies have tie-ups and/or are selling packages from the dive center
•	Online through search engines or dive forums or listing websites

How a tourist spot based dive center can use OneDiver to improve business.

•	Get Business Online!
OneDiver improves Dive Center's marketing and exposure online on personal computers as well as on mobile devices. OneDiver enables customers to make reservations and pay for the dives and trips in the comfort of their home. Our client dive centers have experienced customer bookings from OneDiver simply by having the schedule on their website.

•	Partner with dive travel companies
This is one of the most powerful ways which tourist spot based dive centers can get customers. Right from the tourists home country, have a local representative sell dives for your dive center. OneDiver facilitates this by sharing and displaying information readily on the Internet. Dive centers can create the dive schedule and customers can make reservations at the dive travel company. The customers and their reservations are shared directly with the dive centers, bypassing the hassle of communication by emails and overseas calls.

•	Partner with resorts and hotels in the tourist spot
There are resorts and hotels in the vicinity that does not have it’s own diving operations. Get the customers before they start walking around the vicinity and comparing prices! Have the resorts or hotels recommend you. Research have shown that a third party recommendation is many times more convincing than coming from the subject, your dive center, even if the potential customers know there is a link. Have the customers make a reservation from the resorts and hotels through OneDiver.

•	Impress the customers overseas and at your dive center
Truthfully speaking there is no way the potential customers can determine if the dive shop they choose will give them a good experience. All they can depend on for their decision are people’s recommendation and their perception. Having a very impressive website with all your best pictures gives customers confidence and imagination. Similarly, OneDiver, with its advance customer administration, shows the potential customer that investing on quality and the customer experience is important to your dive center.

•	Entice the walk in customers
When customers enter the dive shop, you should give them something to take away, no matter whether they dive with you or not. This is an important trick to getting the potential customer to remember your dive center and come back. This is where your dive center’s iPhone App developed by OneDiver comes in. Everyone that comes into your dive center who has an iPhone, get them to download the App. There are your dive trips, information, contact and a free dive log for the customers!

In a few more hours, 2011 will be here, about this time 11 years ago we were all bracing ourselves for the end of the world. For decades machines had been such a big part of our lives, we were and still are so dependent on them that we couldn't live without them.

My point? Its no longer a choice if we want technology in our lives, in the activities we participate, in the things we love.

Only a couple of months ago, Facebook crossed the 500 million user mark and soon just like email, Facebook will just naturally blended into our lives. Diving being such a social activity can never ignore what Facebook can do for the sport, the problem remains "HOW?".

Many experts predicted mobile computing will change the world, years and years ago. HP, Compaq, Palm and many others hopped on and started building phones that works like a computer, it never took off. Apple however cracked it, mobile computing is no longer a doubt, our websites have seen a 20% increment of mobile devices visits. The question you asked, "What has this got to do with me?".

OneDiver build around Facebook, pushing interesting and relevant information of your dive operations, making social computing simple and easy for you as a dive operator.

Mobile? We are definitely big on it, 2010 we spend all our effort on the iPhone and iPod. OneDiver's 2011 resolution is to assist all dive operators to move their dive information mobile, in a affordable yet interesting way. With OneDiver YOURapp, your dive operations will be in your divers' finger tips literally.

On behalf of the OneDiver team, we wish all dive operators in the world a very happy 2011.

Ok, hang on, I know what you are thinking, it doesn't mean OneDiver officially stopped development. OneDiver as a company, has really come a long way to become a professional team with full-time programmers, designers, sales & support personnel.
